John Cowperthwaite of MOSS, Husky and J C Midge kit car fame makes a return to Newark Kit Car show as an exhibitor.

Things on wheels, John's latest business venture is a kids race car. Called the "Lightning" the car is powered by a cordless drill. You can have one built to order for £300, but most people buy the plans for £15 and build their own for less than £100.

The car is constructed from just five shaped MDF panels which form the basic underbody structure.

The front and rear sections are made from a modified kitchen swingbin!

It is powered by a cordless drill driving on one tyre in what is known as a periphery drive

The drill trigger is actuated remotely with a foot pedal via a bicycle brake cable this provides graded acceleration and automatic braking when the pedal is released

If you want to buy the plans to build one yourself you can build one over a weekend

All the parts you will need are available either over the counter or from Things on wheels if you prefer.

The plans and instructions are very simple. You need basic DIY skills and simple hand tools. There is no welding and no wiring required.

Paper patterns are supplied for you to cut out the shaped MDF panels with a jig-saw.

Test drives available, but only drivers aged 5 and under need apply.
