Despite the less than seasonal weather on Show Saturday, the crowds flocked to the 2010 National Kit Car Festival at Newark. This was the 28th year of the show and there was a real buzz and feel good factor about NEWARK 10. The show centres around the manufacturers in the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall and this year it was especially pleasing to the eye with a great balance between established Newark Exhibitors and Manufacturers who were new or returning to the show. There were some exciting debuts of cars never seen before including no less than five companies choosing Newark to make the public launch of new products.
Mills Extreme Vehicles (MEV) had a sea of photographers and public to witness the grand unveiling of the front engined Exocet, which was completed just in time to be debuted at Newark. We were looking forward to seeing the latest creation from talented designer Stuart Mills for the first time and it did not disappoint, feedback was very positive.
MR2 Kits, exhibiting for the first time at Newark, brought two cars based on a 1994-1998 Toyota Celica ST202 and is the only 2+2 re-body of the Celica on the market. The launch of the new GTD model was of great interest. This is the companies first car that is not a replica and also it is a genuine 2 +2. The styling of the car incorporates elements from the best of the supercar design houses. The public reaction was very good. The bodykit is available for £3,950 and it is estimated that a GTD can be put on the road for around £8,000 - £10,000.
The new DNA Automotive 5Scudo made it to the show after much burning of the midnight oil to make sure it was finished. The 5Scudo is based upon the Ford Cougar which are now available for less than £1500. There are no structural modifications required to the donor car. Prices for kits start at £10,500. Alongside were two of their Toyota MR2 based super car 4thirty kits.
